happy 2020!

Every year, at the turn of the year, I like to take time to reflect on the year past, contemplate both its challenges and its blessings, and write out my gratitudes. It always gives me pause to realize just how much I have to be grateful for as I begin to write. I could fill pages and pages!

Then I shift my focus to the year ahead and direct my attention to what I want to bring into my life. More so than any particular circumstances, people, or things, I focus on the energy I wish to have permeating my life in the upcoming year.

Ever since 2009, I’ve been choosing a single word as my guiding theme for the year; an energy I want to keep drawing on as I move through the next twelve months. As I’m choosing my word for the twelfth year in a row, I am enjoying looking back at the words of years past and seeing how their energy wove itself through the years like golden threads. Some of the words are still very present with me today. My word for 2017 was Grace, and it is one I’ve carried forward with me in many ways. My beautiful friend, Grace, from Kenya, is a daily reminder to keep connecting to the energy of Grace, as is my chosen middle name I adopted when I changed my name at the end of 2017. Kaiyah means “full of Grace” in Hebrew.

The word that has emerged for me as my theme for 2020 is EMBODY.

There are a number of layers to it, including

  • deepening my commitment to being fully present in this physical realm, in this physical body (something I’ve resisted greatly throughout my life, as this physical experience is not always a comfortable one), and living with more ease and joy in this body, in this world,

  • embodying the values I most care about, including kindness (towards self and others), empathy, generosity of spirit, and joy,

  • bringing into physical form (aka embody) the book I have been working on the past several years, as well as the life I desire for myself and the souls in my sphere.

I invite you to reflect back on the blessings that 2019 has brought you and the lessons you’ve integrated from the challenges you’ve faced, and then to choose your own theme for the year 2020. I would love it if you shared your word and the meaning it holds for you.

Many blessings for the year ahead, and may you transition with ease and joy into the new energy that is unfolding. 🙏🏼✨

So much love.
